Who Is That Chunky Little Monkey?
September 28, 2009 by admin
As you might know, part of my story is that I used to be a fat kid – they called me “blubber thing” at summer camp. I’ve been surprised by the number of people who have told me that they don’t believe that I actually was an obese kid.
In preparation for my wedding – only 11 days away! – my dad has been digging up old photos of me to put on a DVD to be played at our rehearsal dinner. I was over my parent’s house last night, looking through the pics that he found. Wow, it’s no wonder that I avoided the camera as much as was humanly possible!
The Time Crunch Solution: How To Stay Fit When You’re Crazy Busy
September 24, 2009 by admin
On Tuesday I was shocked. One of my champion clients had her second “bad week” of the month – workouts were missed, crappy food was eaten and progress went backwards. This is totally out of character for Anna (not her real name).
It turns out that the problem was a time crunch: she had started taking test prep classes for the GRE and started a second part time job. All of the extra demands on her time pushed out her cooking time and her working out time.

Here are the 4 guidelines I gave her to get back on track:
#1. Buy a paper planner: When Anna only had a handful of regular demands on her time she could manage her life in her head, but clearly that system has been overloaded. At a certain point everyone outgrows what he or she can keep track of in their head, and they need to move on.
Whenever someone misses an appointment with me, I always ask them if they have a paper planner, and I usually get a response like, “I’m 40 years old and I’ve been keeping track of my appointments in my head my whole life. I don’t need any help!”
How To Get The Body You Want In The Time That You Have: Get In, Get Out and Get Fit Fast
September 17, 2009 by admin
My fiancé and I were in Gastonia, NC (that just sounds country) this weekend getting ready for our wedding – going to a food tasting, getting tuxes, getting wedding portraits, getting wedding rings, and on and on and on. I’m usually expecting a relaxing weekend when we go visit her parents in NC, but this was anything but. By the time we made it to the gym we were really pressed for time.

What’s funny is that there were these two guys who doing their chest workout when we walked into the gym to change. We got our warm-up (foam rolling, corrective exercise and dynamic flexibility) + every single muscle in our body + a killer cardio workout in LESS time than it took these two guys to complete their workout for just one muscle – their chest. We walked out of the gym and these two guys were still doing their chest workout.
Oh, and as arrogant as it sounds, I’m bigger than both of the guys who spent at least 60min on just their chest. I did “chest” workouts for 9 years with essentially nothing to show for it. I built all 215lbs of my muscle with 3 short total body workouts per week (and I got lean with 3 different short total body workouts per week).

Everyone who reads my stuff knows that you need to do some kind of smart exercise to be healthy and look better naked. However, a whole lot of the people who read my stuff don’t actually do smart exercise on a regular basis.
Are they just lazy? Do they just lack time management skills? Is their commitment sub par?

If you had asked me 3 years ago I probably would have said “yes.” (Yes, assuming they were educated. Meaning that they weren’t thinking that the key to long lasting fat-loss is “eat less and exercise more.” ‘Cause it’s not.)
Research from one of my industry’s top trade associations shows that pain not time is one of the most frequently cited reasons for quitting a workout program. I don’t mean that someone blows their ACL. I just mean that people get sick of their knees, back and shoulders killing them.
Feet In The Street and Low Carb Crepes
September 3, 2009 by admin
First I would like to thank everyone who came out to my 20min Fat Loss Solution Bootcamp last Saturday. Thanks! We’re doing the drawing on Friday.
Doing that bootcamp was a lot of fun and I’m seriously considering adding 1 or 2 to my offerings on a regular basis.
This is my 56sec video montage of the event:
Low Carb Crepes
You will never believe what these things are made of (in a good way). Me and my fiancé had a pre-wedding shower this weekend, and one of the things that she made for the event were these low-carb crepes that nobody suspected were low-carb.

I am not skilled at cooking or flipping
